Our First Golf Day!
Waipu Golf Course – What a day and location to stage our very first Golf Day
It was very much a low-key affair in terms of Golf Talent, but close to 40 players, mostly beginners, braved slight winds, slick greens and hearty banter to support the Graeme and the Mass Sports Trust. The members and golf purists from Waipu were politely asked to turn a blind eye as we broke more than a few rules.
Format: We played an Ambrose format, perfect for beginners, where each team of 4 is required to select their best shot. This played into the hands of the YOUNGSTERS who pipped the rest of the field, shooting 48 points off a handicap of 8 (Mmmmm – Ringers)
Competition within a competition: We had the Mocha Ocean Swimming Club and the Greenhithe Masters Football 4 Balls having their own individual golf challenge within the overall event, so well done to Greg Stewart and Lee Philo for winning those sought after trophies respectively. Mohammed Brojerdi won the Longest Day (Oh Boy that was hard work), Nicky Wallace the best Female. There were other trophies for outstanding moments such as Nick Spargs eagle.
